Joey Hannant enters his tenth year with the University of North
Carolina at Pembroke as the head of the athletic performance
department during the 2018-2019 academic year. As head of the
program, Hannant is responsible for designing and implementing
year-round training and nutrition programs with the main focus on
athletic development of all varsity sports and the spirit squad at
UNCP. In addition, he is directly responsible for the day-to-day
training of the football, men's basketball and softball
programs.
Prior to joining the UNCP staff, Hannant was the Assistant Director
of Strength and Conditioning at the College of Charleston for a
year and a half. While there, he was directly responsible for the
strength and conditioning development of men’s and women’s soccer,
men’s and women’s swimming and diving, women’s track and field and
women’s tennis while assisting with men’s and women’s basketball,
baseball and volleyball.
In October 2015, he was named to the NCAA Committee
on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects in Sports where
he works with other appointed constituents to provide
leadership to the NCAA in order to promote a healthy and safe
environment for student-athletes through research, education,
collaboration and policy development
Hannant graduated from Western Illinois University in 2005 with a
bachelor’s degree in exercise science, also completing an
internship at the University of Iowa with the strength and
conditioning staff for the football team. He then earned his
Master’s degree from The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. in 2007 and
continued his training in the strength and conditioning department,
working with many of the institutions different sport programs.
